Gambian Home Cooking centre will give you the opportunity to spend the day in true Gambian style and learn how to cook a typical Gambian meal. After a short drive we will arrive at the “Ya Boye” home cooking centre were our host will welcome us and gives us a short orientation of the program of the day. A short drive later on will take us to Tanji Market were we collect our local products which we will use for our dish of the day, from the market we return back to the centre to take part in the making of the food from stage to stage.
The day starts with an early pickup from the hotels taking us to Banjul to catch up with the ferry. A 35-minute ferry crossing takes us to the north bank of the River Gambia at Barra. Our first visit will be at Fort Bullen which was established by the British in 1823 for the abolition of the Slave Trade. There will be a guided tour within the fort premises and the guide will point out the strategic location of the fort and how it played an important role during the abolition of the slave trade. Few minutes of driving will then take us to Jerreh Camp which is situated in the dense forest of Niumi, in the North Bank Region of the mouth of River Gambia where we will observe the processing of the Palm Wine and Palm Oil. A taste of the jungles Palm Wine (Jungle Juice) will be experienced.
Departure from your hotels after breakfast at 08.30hrs. The drive takes us to the Makasutu Cultural Forest. Makasutu is a Palm forest situated on the banks of a beautiful meandering tributary of The River Gambia, encompassing many different eco-systems including dense forest, savanna and mangrove regions. From Makasutu, the drive continues to the Sindola Safari in Kanilai, situated in the Foni District for an overnight stay where dinner will be served. On the second day, the drive continues to the Tendaba Camp which is situated at the river side of the Kiang West National Park where you will be taken on a boat trip through the mangroves where you encounter a lot of birds. On the third day, we will visit Kartong, where the Sandele Lodge is located and also the reptile farm which ranges different species of of reptiles.

This trip will last for about half the day, up till about 2-3. The first stop of the tour will be at Serrekunda, the largest town in the country, where you will visit the ‘tie and dye’ batik factory. After having a look at the batik’s, the drive continues to the sacred crocodile pool in Bakau, where you will have an inside visit of the traditional museum before walking around the pool. Afterwards, we head to the capital, Banjul, where the guide explains the history of the surrounding area and the city stopping at the National Museum followed by the Albert’s Market, where African Souvenirs can be purchased.
